Game On - Chef Competition

Levy, the sports and entertainment hospitality provider, commissioned Airframe Media to capture their Game On chef competition — a MasterChef-inspired live cooking battle held at a central London venue. The brief required a high-energy production that would document the competitive tension between professional chefs while showcasing the culinary creativity and plating artistry that defined each round. The finished film needed to serve both as an internal culture piece for Levy's team and as a promotional asset for recruiting future competition participants.

Pre-production involved a site walkthrough at the competition kitchen to map camera positions around the cooking stations, prep areas, and judging table. Our crew deployed a two-camera setup: a primary Sony FX6 on a gimbal for fluid tracking shots following the chefs in motion, and a secondary locked-off camera capturing the judging panel reactions and wide room coverage. Close-up work was critical — macro shots of plating detail, ingredient preparation, and the judges' tasting reactions were captured with an 85mm f/1.4 prime for shallow depth of field that isolated the food against the busy kitchen background. Audio capture combined a shotgun mic for ambient kitchen atmosphere with wireless lavaliers on the host and head judge to capture commentary cleanly over the sound of sizzling pans and kitchen activity. In post-production, the edit was paced to mirror a competition format: opening with wide establishing shots of the venue and contestant introductions, building intensity through the timed cooking rounds with rapid cross-cutting between chefs, and culminating in the judging sequence and winner reveal. Colour grading preserved the natural warmth of the kitchen lighting while ensuring food presentation shots remained vibrant and appetising. The finished film has been used by Levy's internal communications team and has driven interest in subsequent competition seasons.
